Our little learners at The Academy of Berkshire have been busy exploring one of nature's most amazing transformations, the life cycle of a butterfly! The children had the exciting opportunity to observe real caterpillars up close. They carefully watched as the tiny caterpillars moved around, ate their food, and grew bigger each day. Through hands-on observation and meaningful discussions, the children learned about the different stages of the butterfly life cycle, including the egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly.
As they observed the caterpillars, the children practiced important science skills such as predicting, comparing, asking questions, and making observations. They were fascinated by the changes happening right before their eyes and eagerly checked on their caterpillars throughout the day.
As we discuss the stages of the butterfly life cycle, the children are building important science and language skills by asking questions, sharing observations, and learning new vocabulary words such as caterpillar, chrysalis, metamorphosis, and butterfly. They have enjoyed comparing the caterpillars' size from day to day and predicting what might happen next.
